KATE WINSLET: THE ACTRESS CONFIDES IN THE DIFFICULTIES ENCOUNTERED ON THE SET OF « LEE »

Presented at the Toronto International Film Festival, « Lee » sees Kate Winslet delivering a remarkable performance in the role of American war journalist and photographer Lee Miller. A film that required a lot of patience from him.

The project of a lifetime. Senior actress and producer of « Lee », Kate Winslet worked for years on the development of this film devoted to American war journalist and photographer, Lee Miller, known for documenting the atrocities of concentration camps during the Second World War. The actress took advantage of making the cover of the American edition of Vogue to return to the many difficulties encountered so that this feature film, which has just been acclaimed during its presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival, can see the light of day.

Kate Winslet notably talks about her exchanges with men in high places in Hollywood. « These men who think you want and need their help are incredibly unbearable. I even had a director who said to me: ‘ Look, you're making my film and I'll make sure your little project is funded ’. Small ! We also had potential male investors asking us: ‘ Tell me, why should I like this woman? ’ », she launches. However, it highlights the importance of the #MeToo movement in the evolution of mentalities in Hollywood in general. « Young comedians are no longer afraid. It makes me so proud », she says.

TRIED ON HIS PHYSIQUE

The shooting of « Lee » was particularly trying for Kate Winslet who, from the first day in front of the camera in Saint-Malo fell violently on her back. « I had three bruises in the spine. I could barely stand up », she said. This injury prevented her from training to shoot the scenes where she appeared to be topless, or in a bra. « You know, I had to be damn brave to agree to expose my body without preparation, and not to have demanded to hide everything », says Kate Winslet who, throughout his career, has never ceased to be judged on his physique.

« I have always been told that I was not physically as it should be, that I should accept to have fewer opportunities accordingly. I know I have better things to do than lose my energy about criticism of my physique. I think any woman has an interest in saying to herself: I believe in myself. What others think doesn't matter. This is who I am, and let's keep moving », she launches.
